Sick list

I tell you all, I am sick and tired of people. I am sick of people on the left right and middle. I am sick of closed minded know-nothings and open minded know-it-alls and everyone in between. I am sick of white walls and tan carpet and red doors and orange siding. I am sick of old farms turned into half million dollar houses stacked one on top of another and all looking the same. I am sick of government housing that looks like Beirut after the Israelis left. I am sick of stores that don't carry pants in long sizes for big guys. I am sick of $100.00 blue jeans and the people that wear them. I am sick of gay men telling women what's hot. I am sick of seeing men portrayed a oafish slobs on TV. I am sick of people telling other people what a marriage is or is not. I am sick of gay white men acting like ghetto-fabulous black women. I am sick of bad advice from good people. I am sick of major league sports and all the money. I am sick of the TSA and search of my shoes. I am sick of bird flue and the scare you shitless method of governing we have allowed ourselves, no not allowed, chosen to be involved with and the people who bitch about at bars and on talk radio. I am sick Alex Trebec without his lip hair. I am sick of mandatory bike helmets and seat belts. I am sick of no driver check up for the aged. I am sick of turning without the signal. I am sick of cell phones that don't work. I am sick of grocery store flyers in my mailbox. I am sick of gum on the sidewalk and piss on the toilet seat. I am sick of catering to the lowest common denominator.

But I am very happy to be here and allowed to belch forth my sick list, and oh yeah,

I am sick of writing on my blog.

New Thing to Do

I was watching Bravo and the showed the AFI's 100 best movie quotes. Most of them come from high brow movies like Forest Gump. I thought it would be better to have a list of quotes from other movies. Movies that don't get shown in film school, but do get played at keg parties at film school.
The thing is I think I will need help to compile this list and the rate the quotes. So please offer up your quotes with the movie title, character, and a description of the seen.

Symposium

I went to a symposium in the Greater Chicago area for building envelope technology. This two day event consisted of 12 one hour sessions where industyr experts discussed everything from standard testing to particular wall system repairs. Overall I would give the event a "B". Some of the sessions delivered novice level information that did not further my understanding of the topics. Some sessions were too technical for me, and I think the rest of the audience and would have been better recieved by evironmental scientists not consultants and PEs.
The rest were very helpfull and informative. Not that the information was new but it was nice to hear it coming from someone other than my boss, or as validation of what I thought I already knew.
Included with the event were several hours of down time spent drinking double Kettle One on the rocks with three olives on a roofing products salesman's dime.
The travel to and from was not so good as the flights were delayed. The service on the plane was fine however and who can blame the weather?
On my return home, I was greeted at the truck by my wife and dog (my son was safely asleep in the house) where I imediatley broke the leg off my rolling suit case.
Now I am back at work and all is well.

Two of UsTwo of us riding nowhere Spending someone’s hard earned pay,
You and me Sunday driving, Not arriving on our way back home.
We’re on our way home,
We’re on our way home,
We’re going home.
You and I have memoriesLonger than the road that stretches out ahead.
Two of us sending postcards Writing letters on my wall.
You and me burning matches, Lifting latches on our way back home.
We’re on our way home,
We’re on our way home,
We’re going home.
Two of us wearing raincoats Standing solo in the sun.
You and me chasing paper, Getting nowhere on our way back home.
We’re on our way home,
We’re on our way home,
We’re on our way home.

When I hear this song I think of all the times I spent with my dad when I was a little boy. we used to go all over the place. I never knew where we were going or what for, I just knew I liked hanging with my dad. These were the memories I have chosen to hold on to about my dad.
When Mr. Bebout was being prepared, I was forced to revisit my own childhood and my relationship with my dad. When I do I come abck to this song andthe imagary it provokes in my mind and I can't help but think how much I want my son to have similar memories of me.

Sexy TV

These are, without question, the sexiest TV shows of the late 1980's:
1. Golden Girls
2. Murder She Wrote

There are no other sexy shows. Everything else was not sexy.
Jessica Fletcher was not like melted butter on a fresh dinner roll. And let's not forget who hot Bea Arthur was in those smart pant suits with flats. I am all a quiver just thinking about it.

Strange Days Indeed

I read Readers Digest and have for years. My mother gave Mrs. Bebout a subscription and since it comes to the house I read it. So big whoop wanna fight about it?

Anyway, Readers Digest is conservative magazine and always has been. They have had pieces about how smart GWB is and how honest the Dick is. Or something like that. The point is it is and always has been conservative. That asshole with the bow tie wrote a column for them about how outrageous liberal were for trying to get poor people off welfare and back into productive society. This type of con BS.

So imagine my astonishment when I opened to an article about the ills of the three strike policy fathered by the tough on crime republicans. They made an argument based on now 50 years to life seemed a bit aggressive for stealing $68.75 worth of K-Mart video tapes and how most the people in prison are there because of drugs and not crime. And that the three strikes are racially biased against minorities, especially black people.

I nearly fell off the pot. I could not believe that this argument, which also touted David Souter as a sensible and well thought of jurist.

Becuase I am am skeptical I think this is a bait and switch tactic thought up by Rove and Wolffy in some backroom to offput the liberal defense. Either that or the conservatives are jumping ship now before the SS Bush sinks to the briney deep like the rats they are.
